Bowling Green, Wauchula and Zolfo Springs

The three towns of Hardee, Bowling Green, the County Seat, Wauchula, and Zolfo Springs, each have some unique experiences to offer during your visit to Hardee County for GFNY.

Bowling Green is home to Paynes Creek Historic State Park. 

Wauchula has many charming places to visit, like the Aerie Observation Tower, Peace River Park, Main Street Heritage Park, as well as many shopping and restaurant options.

Zolfo Springs is home to the Hardee County Wildlife Refuge and the Cracker Trail Museum.

Paynes Creek Historic State Park

The history of an 1840s outpost in remote but beautiful Florida is preserved and welcomes you. Nature enthusiasts and hikers can enjoy walking along trails through the park's natural areas. Paynes Creek and the adjoining Peace River provide opportunities for canoeing, kayaking and fishing. A museum at the visitor center depicts the lives of Florida's Seminole Indians and pioneers during the 19th century.

Hardee Lakes County Park

Hardee Lakes Park is approximately 1200 acres and has horse trails, hiking trails, handicap-accessible hiking trails, and bike trails. There are also picnic areas, a picnic pavilion, and a playground available. The park includes a boardwalk that winds around the lakes and through the woods, a splash pad and a new disk golf course.

Solomon's Castle

Sculptor and painter, Howard Solomon, created a unique experience in the middle of tranquil nature of Hardee. With more than 80 stained glass windows, metal sculptures, a flower garden, the Castle is a delightful experience.

Peace River Park

Kayaking trips on the Peace River, eco tours, RV and glamping can be booked via 5th Day Outdoors.

Wildlife Refuge

Refuge is home to native Florida wildlife and a few exotic species, each housed in natural-type habitats. Guests are encouraged to visit the Refuge and take a stroll among the treetops on the elevated boardwalk and become educated about the animals that make the Hardee County Wildlife Refuge their home.

Cracker Trail Museum

Since its beginning in 1967, Cracker Trail Museum has collected over 4,000 items related to pioneer-era Florida history.
